The Clay Kids - Teachers

Luzille Cofield

I have been teaching at a local school district in Arizona for fourteen years. This year is my sixth year of teaching at The Clay Church’s Children’s Ministry. I am married to a wonderful and amazing person for almost twenty-eight years. I have three great kids, one daughter and two sons. My whole family serves in different ministries at The Clay Church. My favorite thing to do is, going out for breakfast with friends on Saturdays, and I also love sleeping in on Saturdays. I am a passionate vegan, and I love animals. I love teaching Sunday school, because I get to help kids grow spiritually on every aspect of their lives. It is also a rewarding experience to see a kid have a spiritual breakthrough. The feeling of accomplishment is phenomenal, especially when you see the results of your hard work that impacts someone else’s life. “Train up a child in the way they should go, and when they are old they will not depart from it.” - Proverbs 22:6

I am going to high school this fall. I love playing with friends, family, and being on my phone watching and listening to Christian music. My dad is the head pastor of The Clay Church. Growing up I often wondered what being a Christian really meant. I then realized just because my parents were Christians, it didn't mean I am automatically a Christian. Being a Christian means accepting Jesus Christ as my personal Savior in order to be saved and be baptized as my public declaration of my faith in Him. I started teaching Sunday school in December of 2017 and I have always loved being with kids and watching them. Ever since I was small all I ever wanted to do was to be with kids. So finally one day my dad told me as soon as I got to church that I would be teaching on that day. So far I have enjoyed the experience. I can't wait to see what God will do in their lives.

Having a shy personality resorted me to choose teaching Sunday school as a ministry in my younger years of walking with Christ. Dealing with kids somehow was less intimidating than other ministry. Fast forward 20 years, I married the love of my life, who is called to be a pastor and is now the pastor of The Clay Church. When we started the Clay, we had to be involved in every ministry, and one of them is teaching Sunday school. I grew to love teaching more as I get to know the kids personally. Every time I prepare the materials, I get the opportunity to present the word of God in exciting and fun ways to these innocent minds.

This will be my second year teaching Sunday School at The Clay Church. I’m delighted to be part of such a positive and caring team. I teach Sunday School because I love watching kids start learning about the Bible and praying as they start their faith journey. Their energy and inquisitiveness is so much fun. The children help me remember that God has made all of us unique and special. We are all loved for exactly who we are. Throughout my Life God has been teaching me to trust Him in His perfect timing and plan for me. I am thankful for the oportunities He has given me to serve in Children Ministry at Church, and as a wife and mother of twin sons. I enjoy traveling, meeting up with friends, crafting, and spending time with my family.

I love God and want to serve Him. I have been teaching Sunday school for elementary and middle school group children since I attended the Clay Church in 2012. Before joining the Clay Church, I've never taught children, however by God's grace, I found myself not only enjoying teaching but also learning a lot while teaching. I feel fulfilled when seeing God’s Word having a positive impact on children’s lives and accomplished watching Clay children grow spiritually over the years. I am thankful to be given the opportunity to be involved in Sunday school teaching and proud to be part of the Clay Church Children’s ministry. We are planting seeds in these precious children’s hearts. Jesus says in Matthew 19:14 (NIV) Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” As a single mother of three children who are in college, high school and middle school respectively, it’s challenging to raise them up with a full time job but is very rewarding to see my children grow up both physically and spiritually. I love reading, listening to christian music and sports. I enjoy playing table tennis, being outdoors, hiking, travelling and spending time with my family. My favorite thing to do is waking up on Saturday morning naturally to pray, read, do devotion and other things that I need to do at my own pace.
