Obstacles vs Opportunities

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understand; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths” - Proverbs 3:5-6
It’s hard to view life with eyes bigger than our personal experience. Sometimes while making our way through life, we encounter optical illusions of another sort. We look at our situations in life and can’t quite figure them out. Our circumstances may appear complex and disturbing. When our world appears to be spinning, we feel like things are out of control. Our minds interpret what we see in a subjective way, but do our perceptions match God’s reality? Most probably not.
Remember Jonah and his famous story? God told Jonah to go to Nineveh to warn them of the impending judgment. Jonah was terrified, and he must have viewed his mission as a suicide mission (mission impossible). Nineveh was the capital of the Assyrian Empire, which was known for its brutality and terrorism plus they were the mortal enemy of Judah. To Jonah, walking into Nineveh would be similar to you or me walking into the center of a terrorist camp and trying to preach the Gospel. That was his perception, but that wasn’t the reality as God saw it. Jonah’s mind misinterpreted God’s assignment from a human perspective, so he did what a lot of us do. He followed his instincts rather than his instructions.
As you are making your way through life, learn to trust God’s Word more than our own perceptions, and prayerfully acknowledge Him as Lord of every of every situation. He knows how to direct our paths... yes, even the impossible one.
God bless,
